Behind Sitings
Every fall, the RISD Museum sends out a call for submissions for the annual Sitings competition, and students tour the museum with museum staff to select from a menu of sites the one for which to propose an installation. A juror then selects the artwork that will be exhibited in the spring. But between the initial idea and the final installation is a demanding process that goes on independently of class work. “It’s process art,” says Ben Peterson (MFA CR ’11), who collaborated with Lee Johnson (MFA CR ’11) to build one of last year’s installations.
